Coaches

Andrew Trimble
Head Coach
 
A native of Manasquan, NJ, Andrew Trimble is the Head Coach at Dayton after guiding the Columbia University Women's Hockey Team in 2008-2009.  He has served on the staff's of the Ocean Hockey School, Brule Hockey, the Nj Stars hockey club, the NJ Raiders, Armeggedon Ice Clinics, and the Training Camp Hockey School in Laconia, NH.
 
Coach Trimble grew up playing in the Brick Hockey Club and ended his career at Manasquan High School as the program's all-time leading scorer, MVP of his conference, an All-Shore selection, All-Tournament for the 97' Garden State Games, and a selection to the 98' NJ State Senior All-Stars.  Andrew went on to play and serve as Assistant Captain for the Laconia Leafs (Jr. A, AJHL) in Laconia, NH and NCAA Hockey for SUNY Buffalo State.
 
Aside from his duties with the Dayton Bulldogs, Andrew serves as the Asst. Gm/ Asst. Coach with the Trenton Habs Jr. Hockey Team, as a coach in the Garden State Games Summer Showcase, as chairman of the Laconia Leafs Alumni Association, and as a Private Hockey/ Power Skating Instructor with his company Scoring Concepts LLC.  In addition to coaching, he is a Financial Advisor for Bishop, Rosen & Co, a boutique wealth management firm in Lower Manhattan. 

Matt Schachtel
Assistant Coach

Matt Schachtel is in his fifth season as assistant coach for the Dayton Ice Hockey team.  He also remains a Assistant Varsity & JV Coach for the JDHS Soccer team.  A graduate of Dayton in 2003, Matt was a member of the 2003 Kelly Cup Chapionship team.  While attending Dayton he also was a gold letter winner for the soccer team, and played both basketball and tennis for one season.
 
After Dayton, Matt then attended Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT where he played on the Division 1 Men's Soccer team for two seasons, wearing jersey #11.  He then transferred to Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, NJ where he graduated in May 2007 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Graphic and Web Design.
 
Matt is the owner of Penguin Designs, a graphic/web design company specializing in custom screen printing apparel.



Brendan Donald

Assistant Coach / Goaltender Coach
 
This is Brendan’s second season as assistant/goaltender coach for the Dayton Ice Hockey team. He played his youth hockey for the Brick Hockey Club. There he was a member of the Bowie, Md. Tournament Championship team, 2-time District Championship teams and Regional Finalist In Greensboro, N.C.. He has also attended off-season training camps in London, Ontario where he earned Best Goalie Award in his first season at the camp. 
 
After high school Brendan continued his playing career at Monmouth University. He graduated in 2002 with his Bachelors in Business, Management.   He has coached on the staff's of the Brick Hockey Club, Ocean Ice Palace, Manasquan Off-Ice Street Hockey Camp, Princeton Sports Center, and the Columbia University Women's Hockey Team in 2008-09.  He offers private goaltender tutoring through several local rinks and organizations.


Dale Sona

Head JV Coach 

This will be Dale Sona's first season as an assistant coach with the Dayton Ice Hockey team.  He is currently a high school science teacher at David Brearley High School in Kenilworth, NJ.  Dale joins the coaching staff with a vast knowledge of the sport of hockey, as he has been playing the game since he was a young child.  During his hockey career Dale played ice and roller hockey on the national and international stage.
 

A long time resident of Union, NJ, is a graduate of Kean University Earth Science education.  Dale enjoys sharing his passion for science and hockey by teaching others, as he has also participated in several youth hockey clinics over the years.


JONATHAN DAYTON HOCKEY ALUMNI CLUB

The Dayton Hockey Alumni Club was formed to achieve the following:

  • Assist and support Dayton Hockey in its overall mission. 

  • Help Dayton Hockey through activities such as fundraising and other forms of support.

  • Promote fellowship among club members, and actively grow the sport in our community.

  • Assist the Dayton Hockey Program with scholarship events or other special projects that would benefit the Team.

In lieu of adding to or expanding upon an already extensive compilation of student guidelines and regulations listed in the Jonathan Dayton High School Student Handbook, all players and parents/guardians are asked to take a pledge of commitment to character on behalf of our ice hockey program.

Student Athletes
The Health Eligibility Packet must be completed and returned to Ms. Guida in the JDHS Health Office at least one week prior to the start of our season.  Should the paperwork be returned any later, it may not be processed in time for you to be declared 'eligible to begin practice'.

 

Parents
Our event/travel schedule is subject to change based on a number of factors.  Anytime a change is made it will be immediately reflected in the Travel Schedule linked below.  Please refer to this link periodically to confirm the dates, times, locations and bus schedules of our team.
If your son/daughter will not be traveling with the team due to an excused circumstance, please complete and return and Transportation Form to Coach Perone prior to that date.
